The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:

  • Each team includes only eight human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
