Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position following another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
