Arsenal's manager feels assured that his team can persist in handling with player absences following confirming that attacker Kai Havertz will not return for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The Germany international has been sidelined for months due to an operation on his knee. Hoped to return earlier in December, Arteta explained the player encountered a problem when advancing his recovery and could not progress “the required stage.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a squad that is far more dependable and has greater depth,” stated the manager.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This update leaves a dilemma for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position against Chelsea, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly off the bench in the latter stages. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also in contention after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues surround defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to keep their places in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.

The manager is convinced the £250m spend on squad depth during the summer has placed the club in a much stronger position to handle such absences.

Greater Options Key to Title Challenge

When asked if increased squad depth was aiding their title quest, the manager agreed. “Yes, as this campaign has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now the problems with the defence,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we have to use players in various roles, and they need to be prepared to fulfil different roles if we aim to challenge at this level. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Star

Addressing the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave more insight. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the required step and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

He shared his personal desire to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, it’s a player that, in my view, I value highly for his contributions to the team, but his mentality, his personality. I see him suffer while sidelined.”
