A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
